Designers look to all sorts of places for inspiration, for me one of those places is 1950’s. After the severity of the Great Depression and then the scarcity and rationing that followed WWII, the demand for opulence and style was paramount when the economy kicked into high gear. Design was fundamental. Particularly in the auto industry.
I love the stylish illustrations in ads, the extravagant typography used for emblems, elaborate hood ornaments and inventive use of color. Lots of chrome, speed lines, bold colors and the iconic details like tail fins came out this era and are some of the visual elements that inspire me now.
